This Safeguarding Sunday we wanted to lift the lid on how this important work is carried out in our diocese.
Author Manni Coe shared his story of survival as part of his memoir Little Ruins: Rebuilding A Life. Now he shares with us how contacting the Diocese of Oxford safeguarding team has been a positive experience in his recovery from childhood abuse.
Parish Safeguarding Officers are an integral part of our church family, supporting work with children, young people and vulnerable adults across a range of activities. Margaret Clark is just one of these dedicated volunteers who enable this work to go ahead.

In June 2024 the Diocese of Oxford underwent an independent audit of our safeguarding work, undertaken by the INEQE Safeguarding Group. The audit is part of a national programme, commissioned by the Archbishop’s Council, to conduct an intensive and comprehensive review of safeguarding at each diocese and cathedral in the Church of England.
A safeguarding case review into allegations of spiritual abuse by Revd Michael Hall, at St Margaret's Tylers Green between 1981 and 2000.
Following a painstaking investigation by Thames Valley Police and a lengthy trial at Oxford Crown Court, Ben Field was found guilty of the murder of Peter Farquhar.
An independent review of over 3,000 parish and diocesan files has been concluded with each of the 609 parishes in the Diocese of Oxford completing a return.
