New incumbents

Soon after taking up a post of first responsibility, clergy will receive an invitation from their area bishop to participate in a developmental learning community with other new incumbents across the diocese. Clergy who have been newly appointed to associate priest roles are also invited to join the learning community, in preparation for potentially taking up incumbency roles in future.

The programme aims to provide learning and development alongside your peers from elsewhere in the diocese. It offers opportunities to reflect on the new context and how you are inhabiting your new role. Topics covered include wisdom in leadership, collaboration, and handling conflict creatively.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme for this learning community has shifted online. Currently, a group of 8-10 clergy are meeting once a month for 90mins (on Zoom) over nine months to reflect on experience and learn together.

We hope to include some onsite meetings in future, as in the past the time spent with colleagues has been valuable and fruitful.
