Vicar of St Mary Magdalen, Oxford

The Bishop of Oxford and Christ Church, Oxford as patron seek to appoint a priest who will nurture the existing strengths of the church’s ministry and will energetically enthuse and inspire the ongoing work of the parish.

The parish lies at the heart of Oxford and its character and community are closely bound up with the life of the city and of the university. The church is widely known for its long-standing Anglo-Catholic tradition and its commitment to being an inclusive environment. We are a worshipping community that is nurtured by the sacraments and the daily offices and that is blessed with preaching, liturgy, and choral music of the highest standards.

The new incumbent:
– will lead the worship of our community to the greater glory of God, will sustain a life of prayer, and will ensure the availability of the Church’s sacraments and the daily offering of the Mass;
– will maintain a very high standard of scripturally and theologically grounded preaching, and will take the role of the priest as teacher seriously;
– will be committed to the pastoral care of the congregation, will enhance links with the wider community, and will work to strengthen our fellowship and all that builds up our common life;
– is cognizant of the Anglican choral tradition and is able to intone with precision and clarity;
– will nurture and support the exploration of lay and ordained vocations while actively supporting the ordination of women.

The deadline for submission of applications is 9 January 2026 at noon GMT.
