Prayer Diary May 2022

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Pray to the Father through the Son in the power of the Spirit for:

MONDAY 2 Slough St Paul: Tim Wambunya, Naomi Hill, Helen Broadbent, Susanna Jacob. For the success of the intercultural ministry resourcing hub based at St Paul’s. For planning and effective preparation for the inaugural annual summer mission in June.

TUESDAY 3 Burnham: Janet Minkkinen, Samson Kuponiyi, Sue Smith, Ian Fordyce, Barry Marsden. For WOW (Walking on Water) children’s services and for the team of six lay people organising these alongside our Puppet for All ministry. For us to create and build on our networks, such as school, toddler groups and Girls’ Brigade, to encourage children in the faith and to know Jesus. For the weekday Communion Café for the young at heart, and for the Revd Sue and the lay team setting up this new project.

WEDNESDAY 4 Eton, Eton Wick and Boveney and Dorney: La Stacey, Carole Gooding, Hilary Davis. For our congregations as we welcome baptism families and wedding couples, that faith may be strengthened, and relationships grown. For Carole as she prepares for her ordination as priest this summer. For the families and schools that we work with; for God's blessing on them.

THURSDAY 5 Iver: Robert Gooding, Sarah Smith, Jim Dashper. For our curate, the Revd Sarah Smith, as she is priested on 25 June. For our need to appoint a new treasurer as soon as possible.

FRIDAY 6 Langley Marish: Chris Ferris, Olushola Aoko, Bill Birmingham. For our discernment of where the Holy Spirit is at work in our community. For the healing of our shared brokenness.

SATURDAY 7 Manor Park St John the Baptist and Whitby Road St Michael: For the Revd Suzanne Johnson as she prepares to take up the post of vicar later this year. For funding for the building of a new church on the site of St John’s Church, following the sale of St Michael’s Church, which is on the point of being finalised.

MONDAY 9 Taplow and Dropmore: Jane Cresswell, Suzanne Johnson. For the benefice as Jane goes on sabbatical from May to July. For our outreach to the community, including Taplow Tots and Tea, Hope Café and Snic Snacks (tea, coffee and snacks).

TUESDAY 10 Britwell: Neil McCathie. For the new PCC as they consider the challenges of ministry in this area. For effective outreach to the community as opportunities reopen post-Covid restrictions.

WEDNESDAY 11 Stoke Poges: Natasha Brady. For our second season in the Eco-Garden, that community interest as well as plants grow. Give thanks for God's grace through this pandemic, for people have remained faithful to our mission and ministry. God is good, and we feel blessed.

THURSDAY 12 Iver Heath: Andrew Montgomerie. For the new families connected to us through Jam Tots and Sunday school; for re-opening lunchtime ministry to seniors at the beginning of June.

FRIDAY 13 Hitcham: Sue Sampson, Mary Howarth, Alan Bignall. For our plans that have developed from our new vision for moving forward with God in our parish, that the parish will flourish and the church will grow. For an organist or worship leader to join our diverse and loving church as we have been without an organist for two years.

SATURDAY 14 Horton and Wraysbury: Colin Gibson, Beryl Walters. Give thanks that we are finally beginning to see people come back to the church building after Covid restrictions. Pray for the forthcoming vacancy as our vicar, Colin, prepares to retire in October.

MONDAY 16 Wexham: Andrew Parry, Jill Bell, Chris Collinge, Gordon Briggs. For the continued blessing of our all-age focus, particularly Church for All. For outdoor outreach services in the Paddock behind the churchyard.

TUESDAY 17 Cippenham: Neil Popham, Angeline Ruredzo. That we would find our role as a community hub in a changed world. For all who are lonely, both within our church and the wider community, and that we can respond to their need.

WEDNESDAY 18 Cowley Deanery: Geoff Bayliss, Tony Phelan, Trevor Jones. Give thanks for the vibrant communities that we serve. For refreshment and renewal where they are needed. For the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance as we rebuild family after months of separation. That God will lead us as we review our arrangements for Deanery Share.

THURSDAY 19 Cowley: Geoff Bayliss, Max Díaz-Butrón, Mark Oxbrow, Alison Lockhart. Give thanks for God’s faithfulness and succour in the past months. For all in the parish as we rediscover the best ways to be Jesus’ family at this time. For God’s generous grace as we look to grow a broader and stronger local ministry team. That Christ will give guidance to those seeking clarity about calling and ministry, and for those preparing for ordination and curacies. For our schools as they serve a multicultural community: St Christopher’s, St Francis, and Church Cowley St James CE Primary School.

FRIDAY 20 Headington St Andrew: Darren Mcfarland, Luke Norman, Jenn Strawbridge. For God's blessing on our 900th anniversary celebrations. For the flourishing of Young Church.

SATURDAY 21 Headington Quarry: Laura Biron-Scott, Rob Gilbert. For our 'open door' building project, and our fundraising efforts. For our Forest Church and Forest Tots services.

MONDAY 23 Littlemore with Sandford-on-Thames: Margreet Armistead, Robert Morgan, Teresa Morgan, Benjamin Johnson III, Paddy Watson, John Finden. For God's blessing on our outreach work with families. Give thanks for the enlargement of the Sandford team and pray for blessings on John Findon’s ministry in Sandford.

TUESDAY 24 Blackbird Leys: Heather Carter, Denise Morrey-Carter. For us as a congregation, now four years without a church building in which to celebrate life events in the community, for our corporate life and worship. For us as we continue to seek ways forward for rebuilding the church – for success in grant application and kindness in people's donations.

WEDNESDAY 25 Cowley St John: Philip Ritchie, Claire Browes. For the new churchwarden and PCC. For Alice's Tea party, working with those in mental distress of any kind.

THURSDAY 26 Headington St Mary: Eric Bossward, David Bird. Praise God for continued growth at St Mary’s. It's great to see many individuals deepening their faith and being willing to serve. For Eric's continued recovery from long Covid.

FRIDAY 27 Highfield: Leon Catallo, James Larminie, Christine Tucker. For wisdom and guidance about the future of the parish during this period of interim ministry. That we would see our ministry with families grow and blossom, and for us to enable our parents to disciple their children so they become adult followers of Jesus.

SATURDAY 28 Oxford St Clement: Rachel Gibson, Joanna Tarassenko, Judith Gretton-Dann, Roger Revell, Beth Mead. For our new PCC and wider church family, as we want to share well between us the many and varied roles involved in being St Clement’s. For our Flourishing Life project as we plan events to engage youth and young adults within and beyond our church family around what it means to flourish and live a good life. We’ll explore characteristics of Jesus such as humility, service and joy.

MONDAY 30 Iffley: Andrew McKearney, Nikolaj Christensen, Graham Low, David Barton, Sarah McKearney, Mandy Watts. For our two outreach projects: Community Cupboard, an ecumenical food project jointly run with the Methodist Church serving Rose Hill, Donnington and Littlemore; Living Stones, an educational outreach project welcoming visitors and putting on activities and events to raise awareness and understanding of the church building.

TUESDAY 31 New Marston: Elaine Bardwell, Alison Salvesen. For a successful opening up of our church building to our wider community. For the continued growth in our community of worship online and on site.

SUNDAY 1 For d/Deaf communities in our parishes as we mark, and even celebrate, deafness through Deaf Awareness Week. For the upcoming BSL Communion service at St Aldates, led by the Revd Hannah Lewis and team on 9 May.

SUNDAY 8 For Bishop Olivia confirming at Bradfield College; for Bishop Henry Scriven confirming at Pangbourne College.                       

SUNDAY 15 For Bishop Olivia confirming at Downe House School and Finchampstead St James.                          

SUNDAY 22 For Bishop Martin, Bishop of Chichester, confirming at Oriel College, Oxford.                            

SUNDAY 29 For all those joining the Thy Kingdom Come global wave of prayer, and for those they are praying for.
