Mental Health Awareness Workshops for Clergy

Mental Health Awareness

Half-Day Workshop

We are all very aware that the past year has taken its toll on the mental health of many. Being able to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and to be able to offer appropriate support is now a key need for many clergy. We are therefore offering a half-day Mental Health Awareness course, to help equip clergy to do just this.

The course is led by Nick Ellis, of JJ Ellis Ltd, a trained MHFA instructor. A former police officer, Nick is able to draw on his own experience to support the training. He is married to a vicar and has provided training for several other dioceses, so he is well aware of the particular challenges facing clergy. You can read more about Nick here and more about the course here.

The diocese is funding this training (normally £125 per half-day session when booked directly with JJ Ellis Ltd). The dates are listed below but places are limited to 25 for each session. If demand exceeds this, we will look to provide further workshops in the autumn.

Please note that all sessions will be on Zoom. There will be Zoom captioning available. If you would like to attend this training but would require an interpreter, please email Andrea.Russell@oxford.anglican.org. We cannot provide an interpreter for the initial sessions set out below, but we are looking to do so in the early autumn.

The training is available for all clergy – stipendiary and self-supporting – but not, at this stage, for those holding a PTO. At the moment this workshop is not open to curates as the places are limited. However, if you wish to send your details to Denise Dempsey with your preferred date(s) then she will put you on a waiting  list. If, by 72 hours before the event, there are still places available, you will be contacted.
