The Revd Canon David Tyler was a chartered accountant before ordination and became Associate Archdeacon of Dorchester in 2020.

In January 2023, it was announced that David would be the next Archdeacon of Dorchester, following the retirement of the Ven Judy French in 2022. David had been Interim Archdeacon since Judy's retirement.

David grew up in a non-Christian household and remembers going to church twice a year as a child – for St George’s Day and Remembrance Day as a Scout.

“Church didn’t mean much to me at all,” says David, who first experienced something of God at a Luis Palau event at Crystal Palace.

David first sensed a call to ordination at university and attended theological college two years later.

David was the Rector of Hanborough and Freeland, a rural benefice in West Oxfordshire, for over 12 years and has twice been the Area Dean of Woodstock.

David is married to Catherine, a clinical psychologist, and they have two children, Josh and Charlotte. In his spare time, David enjoys hill walking and walking his cocker spaniel, Poppy.

David's collation will be on 18 March at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
