The Pentecost weekend saw successful new event in the life of Wokingham's Churches.
The Two Choir Festivals brought together the two town centre Churches, All Saints on Wiltshire Road and St Paul's, on Reading Road, in a feast of music and worship.
Both of the churches have a strong choral tradition and welcome singers of all ages. The focus on Saturday the 18 th of May was All Saints.
The weekend started with a beautiful service of Sung Evensong, and continued with a Festival Concert where a combined choir of more than 60 people sang a range of their favourite church music accompanied by the Alfredston Brass Quintet. On Pentecost Sunday (May 19) 80 people, from the age of six enjoyed a recital at St Paul's by the music directors of each church.
The whole weekend climaxed with a Choral Eucharist in the evening, with 180 people in the church. The Revd Richard Lamey, Rector of St Paul's, Wokingham and St Nicholas', Emmbrook with Woosehill Community Church, said: "Above all, the weekend was about two churches which had not really related to each other before doing something exciting together, and about Christians coming together on Pentecost Sunday to worship God. "In a weekend full of quality and commitment, it was that sense of Christians uniting which was the greatest success of all. "
