The Otmoor Challenge!

We are a Benefice of four villages in lovely countryside to the North East of Oxford (Stanton St John, Forest Hill, Beckley and Horton-cum-Studley). We are looking for a friendly new VICAR who will share with us in caring for everyone who lives here. Two of our villages, Beckley and Horton-cum-Studley, are on Otmoor, a wild and beautiful moor (an SSSI), part of which is an RSPB nature reserve. The Otmoor Challenge is a half-marathon taking place each year as part of the Horton-cum-Studley fête, attracting over 300 runners, their families and friends.

We have been described as four of the friendliest villages in the Diocese of Oxford. As much happens on a Sunday afternoon and evening as it does on a Sunday morning. We have children’s churches, all age worship, Common Worship, BCP, Choral Evensong, Taizé and Iona services, formal and informal and everything in between. We have a flourishing team of lay leaders and associate clergy.

We hope our new VICAR will have:
 * Enthusiasm to inspire and lead whilst relating sensitively to all in our villages whatever their background or beliefs.
 * Adaptability to address differing theological approaches and a wide age profile.
 * Understanding of rural ministry, enjoying a range of village activities.

Could you be the VICAR to work with us and among us for the development of our parishes, involving all villagers in the life of the church?

If a half-marathon isn’t your scene we have a number of other vibrant activities in our villages for you to share in. For example, there is Daffodil Day at Shotover House gardens when your spirits will be lifted by the glorious setting as well as the flowers, the spectacular Open Gardens in Beckley or the many events in Stanton St John and Forest Hill.
