Weddings

Married couple smiling happily.

Congratulations!

Are you planning to get married? Your local church will be delighted to make you welcome.

You can find out about getting married in church on the Church of England’s Your Church Wedding site. There’s a ceremony planner, FAQs and lots of useful resources to help you plan your special day. The promises you make on your wedding day seal your love and commitment to each other for the rest of your lives, so it makes sense to spend some time thinking about the words and all that they mean. Talk to your vicar to see if your local church offers a wedding preparation course.

Same-sex couples

It's now legal for same-sex couples to marry in the UK, but the law currently prevents ministers of the Church of England from carrying out same-sex marriages. Although there are no authorised services for blessing a same-sex civil marriage, your local church will want to support you and pray with and for you.

For further details, please read the House of Bishops' Pastoral Guidance on Same-Sex Marriage and the Bishop of Oxford's Clothe Yourselves with Love. And our LGBTI+ chaplaincy service provides listening, support & prayerful affirmation for LGBTI+ people and their loved ones.
