Oxford Diocesan Board of Education: Guidance on Relationships and Sex Education
The introduction of RSE becomes statutory for all schools from September 2020, by which time schools should have their RSE curriculum embedded in the context of their school’s Vision. Both Ofsted and SIAMS inspections from September will include a focus on the impact of this area of the school’s provision.
ODBE has considered carefully the needs of Church of England schools and we are delighted to have brokered a partnership with Southwark Diocesan Board of Education in sharing a resource and training package written specifically for CE schools by Herts for Learning Ltd, including training delivered by HfL. The core guidance document used in this training reflects the needs of Church of England schools alongside the requirement of the Department for Education. The cost of the guidance has been met by SDBE and ODBE.
The package we are now able to offer is in two parts:
- Written guidance document – Guidance for ODBE schools on the effective implementation of the mandatory RSE Curriculum; and
- Headteacher half day Briefing
- Subject Leader full day Training
The guidance will only be available through attendance at the briefing or training sessions which are led by our HfL colleagues who wrote the guidance document
The guidance document provides a ‘route map to the implementation of RSE’ which is linked to such documents as The Church of England Vision for Education, the SIAMS Evaluation Schedule 2018, Valuing All God’s Children, Mental Health and Wellbeing: Towards a Whole School Approach, and Fruits of the Spirit: developing Character Education among others.
The training will also highlight practical approaches to the implementation of RSE within the wider curriculum of a Church of England school science and PSHE. Current RSE resources used in schools will be referred to and practical applications shared. Other themes include the development or review of an effective RSE and Health Policy and clarity on links to current Ofsted and SIAMS schedules. Sessions offered are suitable for all schools and will include phase specific content where appropriate.
We expect these sessions to be popular and will explore further dates if the need arises, please do contact Donna Finlay using email@example.com if you have difficulty booking spaces.
