A very warm welcome to the Governance section of the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education’s web pages.

‘In order to enable the continued development of successful schools, high quality governance is essential …The governance of our schools cannot be left to chance; schools need governors with the right skills and gifts to provide strategic oversight and direction.’  (The DBE of the Future para 32)

We value our governors highly and all the amazing work they do in our schools. Governors are a voluntary body who work alongside school leaders and members of the school community to ensure that schools are highly effective and that all children receive the very best education.

There are many roles that governors fulfil within our schools but there are 3 main key responsibilities

  1. To ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  2. To hold the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  3. To oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
