SIXTY years ago an idealistic Oxford graduate clocked on as a fork-lift-truck driver in the Pressed Steel Car Body factory in Cowley. Two years later the Bishop of Oxford ordained him as the Revd Anthony Williamson, pioneering worker-priest. And 57 years on, Canon Tony is still hard at work as one of the ministry team in the Icknield Benefice.

On Thursday 19th April at 7.30pm in St Leonard’s Church, Watlington, Tony will talk about his extraordinary career. He drove fork-lift-trucks for 30 years while also chairing the factory’s Transport and General Workers’ Union, serving as a city councillor, a priest in Cowley, Lord Mayor of Oxford and first chair of BBC Radio Oxford before moving on to lead the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education, responsible for our area’s church schools.
All are welcome. Refreshments will be served, with a contribution invited for church funds.
