HUNDREDS of people go the chance to watch an open-air nativity that was repeated four times throughout a busy Saturday in Reading town centre in the run-up to Christmas.

Bernard Smith.

Michael Penny, Chair of Churches Together in Central Reading, that organised the event, said it was a huge success.

The nativity, featuring Rise Theatre Company, started outside John Lewis (Nazareth) and travelled for the final instalment to Waterstones (Bethlehem).

Michael said: "There the procession of people joined the band of Reading Central Salvation Army where everyone stopped and sang carols.

There were scores of cheerful children and hundreds of happy, polite people all exhibiting the Christmas spirit.

It was a day to make Reading proud." ;
