Thus says the LORD of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of their great age. And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets.

Zechariah 8:3-5

Spiritual Care for Older People (SCOP) in the Diocese of Oxford is about recognising and supporting older people in their continuing valuable contribution to the life of the church and their communities, and caring for the spiritual needs of older people if physical frailty or mental impairment become significant issues in their lives. The Diocese employs a part time SCOP advisor, and there is also a network of SCOP representatives – lay and ordained individuals who are interested in supporting each other in their ministry with older people. SCOP organises regular resource days and workshops, and produces ‘resource sheets’ on a range of subjects from organising worship in a residential care home to supporting older people who care for children or dependent adults.
