PLAYGROUNDS for Palestine UK, a new charity that aims to raise funds for, you guessed it, playgrounds for children in Palestine, has the funding in place for its first playground. In its latest newsletter, the charity announced it has raised £12,000 for a playground in Kobar, 13 km northwest of Ramallah.

Kobar has four schools and two kindergartens and almost 1,200 children live there. The site for the playground was provided by Kobar's village council.

Once it has been constructed ownership will be transferred to the council.

It is hoped that the playground will be in use by next summer.

The next playground will be at the Al Shurooq School fro the Blind in Bethlehem.

the school provides care and education for children aged two upwards from throughout the West Bank and Gaza.

Where possible families pay a small contribution towards their upkeep, but many are from very poor backgrounds and some have been abandoned.
