The role of the middle leader has become more challenging and demanding in recent years with greater emphasis upon middle and subject leader’s ability to manage their areas of responsibility and to have impact upon school outcomes. Our training sessions will share opportunities for those who lead in our schools to explore their role, develop their understanding and improve their provision. Above all they will provide those working in our schools with support and up to date guidance on how to be an effective leader.
Ofsted report monitoring shows that this is a common improvement area suggested by HMI and Lead Inspectors. If feedback from Ofsted or other monitoring has suggested your school needs to:
‘provide opportunities for middle leaders to develop leadership skills to enable them to focus more rigorously on pupils’ learning’ AND/OR
‘ensure that middle leaders play a strong part in checking progress and evaluating the impact of action plans, and continue systematically to school improvement?’

The training takes place over two half day sessions a fortnight apart. Both sessions need to be attended.
Course objectives include:
To explore what it is that middle leaders do
To explore how middle leaders, fulfil their role
To understand what to look for in lesson observations to improve the quality of teaching
To identify your strengths as a leader
To consider aspects of your role that you may need to improve further
To identify actions you can take back to school
The training is generic rather than specific and is applicable for leaders in Early Years, KS1, KS2 and specific roles such as SEND Leader.
