This module will explore the general responsibilities that the Governing Body has for the strategic direction of the school and ways in which the statutory responsibilities can be viewed as tools to promote high standards across various aspects of school life including educational achievement.
The delivery of this module will include presentation as well as opportunities for discussion and reflection. Governors will be encouraged to work independently and in small groups in order to consider how the statutory responsibilities require governing bodies to establish a range of effective procedures and practices.
The intention is not to work through an exhaustive list of statutory requirements but is instead an attempt to identify key areas for consideration, to signpost where key information can be accessed, to share valuable experience and to provide some useful resources that Governors may wish to take away and use with groups of their own Governors.
