Managing and Understanding Data

14 March @ 7:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Managing and understanding information about pupils’ achievements underpins the key work of any school. As the accountable body it is the responsibility of all Governors to have an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of pupil outcomes. But fear not it is not as mystifying as you may think!

This module will provide you with information to ensure that as Governors you ‘do not shy away from challenging leaders about variations in outcomes for pupil groups, especially between disadvantaged and other pupils.’ (School Inspection Handbook, June 2015 page 39)

There will be a mixture of taught and practical activities working on your own school’s data, with opportunities to work with our experienced inspectors and advisers. The session will cover:

  • Why should we monitor?
  • Sources of information
  • School context and the influence on pupil outcomes
  • Academic achievement:
    • Progress and attainment
    • Y1 phonics check
    • Early Years Foundation stage
    • Inspection Dashboard

This course is suitable for governors, senior leaders and Head Teachers of primary schools

Course Leaders:Eileen Northey/ Karen Metcalf/ Elaine Skinner

Cost: SLA schools: £45, or as part of Excellence in Governance package: £499 (10 modules over 2 years, 3 Gov.s per module)
