Speaker: Dr Rachel Freeth
Have there been occasions when sharing your concerns about a parishioner’s mental health with a psychiatrist might have been helpful?
Using a mixture of presentation, discussion and small group work this day aims to:
- offer some perspectives on mental health problems, particularly in the context of pastoral ministry
- explore situations when psychiatric expertise might be helpful or perhaps even required
- consider the current set up of mental health services and how to access help
- offer some insights and reflection on the broader issues of spirituality and mental health, and how as churches we can offer support, friendship and safe spaces for those who experience mental distress.
Dr Rachel Freeth is a community psychiatrist working in Herefordshire and a person-centred counsellor working for a counselling charity in Gloucester. In recent years she has also devised and delivered training days on subjects related to psychiatry and mental health. See www.rachelfreeth.com.
