Doorsteps Partnerships & Events Manager

Viva has an exciting opportunity for someone who recognises the benefits of developing partnerships to work collaboratively and who wants to increase the scope of their project management skills and experience within the charity sector.

In a Western context the Church has an unprecedented opportunity to embody God’s unconditional love in the local community as children, young people and parents suffer the effects of family breakdown, social isolation and constraints on public services’ resources.

The Doorsteps Partnerships and Events Manager will play a significant part in bringing groups together, particularly the Christian churches in Oxford, to meet this need. There is an overarching role with the Doorsteps network as well as direct involvement in three partnerships: Find Your Fire, Community Under-5s and a new initiative, working with Fegans ( in East Oxford.

Doorsteps is an Oxfordshire-wide, informal peer network with 100 participants including churches and community groups working with children and vulnerable families. The Doorsteps Partnerships and Events Manager will facilitate the flow of information between participants and encourage partnerships and collective action to meet specific needs.

Find Your Fire

This project is a collaboration between Viva, St Luke’s Church, and Donnington Doorstep Family Centre. ‘Find Your Fire’ is a young person centred approach to building aspirations and confidence by supporting young people to ‘try out their dreams’, and build their confidence and skills that will also improve life chances and employability. The project supports vulnerable young people in East Oxford, particularly those with multiple needs. The project has four components: 1. Building awareness of positive life choices, team and self-confidence 2. Gaining an accredited qualification 3. Peer education projects 4. Building a supportive environment including mentoring and coaching

The post holder’s role will be to oversee all aspects of the project through its yearly cycle.

Community Under-5s Partnership

Doorsteps has been working with The Diocese of Oxford and Oxfordshire County Council to develop the capacity of local church-based toddler groups to reach out to vulnerable families with children under 5. This includes producing a self-assessment health check, mapping training needs and running peer workshops and events. The post holder’s role will be to develop the existing partnership to better resource church-based toddler groups in their outreach to local families.

Fegans Partnership in East Oxford: Counselling children, supporting parents

Doorsteps and Fegans are working together with schools in East Oxford to provide high end in-school counselling for children and family support to parents who are struggling. This project will provide BACP qualified therapists to schools and an 18-week ‘Parents Supporting Parents’ programme to families. The post holder’s role will be to deliver Doorsteps’ partnership responsibilities which will include engaging local churches in the partnership, recruiting volunteers and liaising with Fegans staff.
