The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, today announces, on the third anniversary of his installation, a new set of non-academic Lambeth Awards to recognise outstanding service in various fields. Congratulations to Canon Sir Tony Baldry and Dr Philip Giddings, who have been given awards.
Tony, who was the Conservative MP for Banbury for more than 32 years, is the Chair of the Church Buildings Council and has just been appointed as the High Steward of Banbury.
Tony has also been the Second Church Estates Commissioner in Parliament.
He has been given the Langton Award for Community Service.
Philip Giddings is a Licensed Lay Minister at Greyfriars, Reading, and was admitted to the Order of St Frideswide, an award given to lay people for their contribution to work in the Oxford Diocese, in 2001.
He is the former Chair of the House of Laity at General Synod and is a key figure on various committees in the Diocese of Oxford.
He has been awarded the Canterbury Cross for Services to the Church of England. To read the full list of today's awards is online here.
