Contract Type: Permanent

The Oxford Academy (TOA), Oxford Schools Chaplaincy and the Oxford Cowley deanery are seeking to appoint a dynamic yet approachable person with a heart for the gospel, young people and social justice to this new and pioneering role in an area of significant deprivation in the diocese.

Initially based at the TOA site in Littlemore, you will create, manage and train a developing chaplaincy team, which will work closely with six partner primary schools in the deanery, as well the church communities, Oxford Schools Chaplaincy and other charities and agencies collaborating in the area.

The role involves co-ordinating volunteers and employed staff to provide Christian spiritual and pastoral care for all pupils, staff and parents, using a variety of strategies, as well as supporting chaplaincy initiatives across the whole city and diocese.

This is a highly collaborative venture between TOA, Oxford Schools Chaplaincy and Cowley deanery, and it will require someone who is a natural team player as well as a visionary leader. For the right candidate, it offers a very exciting opportunity to make an enormously positive impact on young lives and the wider community. You will need to be a person of lively, infectious and authentic Christian faith, someone who can communicate timeless Christian truths in new and fresh ways and someone who relates very well and naturally to young people.

This position is open to both lay and ordained candidates, and the postholder does not necessarily have to be affiliated to the Church of England, though an appreciation of this tradition would, of course, be important as TOA is a Church of Eengland School.

We encourage interested candidates to contact the school before application and arrange a socially distant visit. Should you wish to discuss this position in more detail, please contact Liz Meadowcroft, HR manager, on 01865 774 311 or send an email to
