Bishop Andrew Proud of Reading was one of the consecrating bishops in Uppsala cathedral on Sunday 12 April when Fredrik Modeus was ordained bishop. Bishop Fredrik was elected at the end of 2014 as bishop of the diocese of Vaxjo (Oxford's partner diocese) in succession to Bishop Jan-Olof Johansson. Bishop Fredrik is 51 years old and comes from Jonkoping in the far north of the diocese of Vaxjo, where his parents still live. He was ordained in Vaxjo cathedral in 1991 and has since served in both Vaxjo and Lund dioceses, most recently as pastor in the Lund cathedral parish. In May he defends his thesis as a doctoral candidate in theology at Lund University. Bishop Fredrik is married to Carina. They have three children, Erik (20), Ida (18) and Arvid (15). Of Bishop Fredrik's two brothers one is bishop of Linkoping (the next diocese north of Vaxjo on Sweden's Baltic coast) and the other is a lawyer.
