TWO air cadet chaplains have been honoured for their work with Regional Commandant's Certificates of Merit.

The Revd Fran Childs, from St Peter's Didcot, and Chaplain to 2410 (Didcot) Squadron Air Training Corps received the award from Chris Fisher OBE, Officer Commanding Thames Valley Wing ATC during the Squadron's Annual Formal Inspection. The Revd Christine Turner, from Banbury, was awarded the certificate for her work as chaplain to 136 (Chipping Norton) Squadron and the 1460 (Banbury) Squadron. Fran has been chaplain to Didcot Sqn as a Licensed Lay Minister and then as a priest, following her ordination in 2016. Flight Lieutenant Jane Wicks, Officer Commanding 2410 Sqn said: "Fran is one of those chaplains who is involved in all aspects of squadron life not just when there are cadet enrolments.

She is seen as the squadron most weeks and has even been known to conduct an ATC Sunday service on the field, during an adventure training exercise. "Christine was appointed chaplain in 2013.

She has also been chaplain to cadets attending the Royal International Air Tattoo held each year at Fairford in Gloucestershire. In the citation, it was said that: "Her work at 1460 Squadron is above and beyond the call of duty and it is for this effort that she is recommended for the award. "
