The Initial Visit—Oxford in Växjö

After initial contacts from Växjö, going back to 1999, the first exploratory visit to Sweden was made by a group led by Bishop Dominic Walker of Reading in spring 2001.  The group, which was based in S:t Sigfrids Folkhögskola at Kronoberg just outside Växjö,  travelled widely across the diocese and met many people, including the members of the Diocesan Board.  It was following the report of this visit that Bishop Richard invited Bishop Anders Wejryd to visit Oxford the following year.

Sweden has a long tradition of hospitality to refugees.  Members of the group met some of them at the “White House” centre in Växjö.
