World Prayer Resources

Date Added: Thursday 12th April 2007

There are so many countries in the world and it’s often hard to know which countries (that are not in the news) to pray for.  These resources can be used individually, or for larger groups, praying for a single country or more than one.

Operation World began as a book and aims to have information about every country in the world, from statistics and information about political situations, to their religious situation.  They also try to find out what needs to be prayed for in that country.  It was uploaded on to the 24/7 Prayer website where you can click on a continent of a map, and then select the country you'd like to read about.  Operation World now have their own website, where they have a Prayer section where they select a different country each day from their book and all the book information on that country is available as links to pray about.  They also have links to not only further websites that have general information about counties in the world, but you can select websites specific to continents, countries or categories.

The next three sites are less related to prayer, however as they give current information about countries, they are useful to learn general facts and statistics about different countries and create your own prayer resources.

The BBC news has country profiles.  Each continent has a drop down menu with many countries and some territories in to select for a profile.

The CIA has a World Factbook that, like Operation World, aims to have a profile about every country.  It mainly provides statistics, however as it is updated fairly regularly, it often has more current information.

Finally, ReliefWeb mainly covers emergencies in countries.  However, it does have maps, reports and documents even for countries that may not currently have an emergency.
