Yellow Braces is the annual "camp" for young people in the Diocese of Oxford. The name is a relic from a long time past and an overly corny play on the Greenbelt festival. It is however a name that is recognised across the three counties and some of the teenagers that come are the children of those who have attended Yellow Braces in former years.
The event has become a large one and we had over 100 people on site including the teens, the team and the 16-18 year olds on the trainee leadership programme. We had to draft in an extra Marquee in order to fit everyone in to eat, the extra number presented a challenge to Andrew, Lindsay and Chris in the kitchen but every meal was delicious, on time and with plenty to tuck into.
The 2005 Event has been and gone and left some great memories. The weather this year was glorious and being based at The Hill End outdoor centre we were able to use the outdoor pool to its full potential as well as play mad games and challenges accross what is a huge site.
The weekend is built around the times of worship, experiencing christian community, the food (obviously) and a great activities programme that includes the opportunity to Climb, sail, or canoe. The worship was really uplifting and we are really fortunate to have a group that come from Devon each year to lead us, we also looked at the life of Jesus and his challenge to us ....... this theme flowed into the late night worship experience and into a great trade game that Christian Aid came to run for us looking at how we can make a difference on a Global scale. We always play water balloon volley ball too (for no other reason than it's great fun!)
If you've not exprienced Yellow Braces yet then make a note that the provisional dates for 2006 are 7th-9th July, that's your chance to laugh, think, pray, play, eat with a great bunch of young people and above all be part of the whole experience that Yellow Braces is!
