Not only would you be saving unwanted items from landfill, you’d be getting rid of the items guilt-free, safe in the knowledge you’re helping formerly homeless people at the same time.

Emmaus Media Officer Caroline Mead said: “Emmaus shops are always in need of good-quality items to sell, so this is a great chance to do something that also helps formerly homeless people living in Emmaus Communities.”

TheEmmaus Oxford shops are located at Westlands Drive, Northway Estate, Oxford OX3 9QY and 31 Upper Barr, Templars Square, Oxford OX4 3UX.

Emmaus Communities offer homeless people a home, work and the chance to regain self-respect in a supportive community environment. Residents (called Companions) work full time on the Community business, renovating and re-selling donated furniture. Communities aim to become self-supporting through their business, with any surplus used to help others in need.
