A host of Christian NGOs (non-governmental organisations) strive to promote a global perspective within churches. We live in a world where billions worldwide lack primary health care, where growing millions in developing countries are HIV positive with very little, if any, access to drug treatments, and where millions lack access to clean drinking water and enough food to live on. And all this in a context of global trading systems that are riven with injustices and unfairness. Globalisation means shifting populations, especially in the wake of wars and civil strife, which adds the challenge of how to welcome the refugees who arrive in our local communities. How are our traditional ways of ‘being Christian’ and ‘being Church’ challenged by the reality of living in a globalized world? What are the challenges that face us; and how can we respond to issues that often seem to big to even begin to contemplate?
