We have received a number of enquiries about the new Church Electoral Roll which will need to be prepared for each parish in 2007 and in every succeeding sixth year, under the Church Representation Rules.
In 2004, the General Synod decided to amend the Church Representation Rules to change the cycle of Electoral Roll revision and various Synodical elections, primarily so that at least every other round of elections to Deanery Synods should take place on the basis of up-to-date information on Electoral Rolls. This was achieved by making the next general revision of the Electoral Rolls in 2007, one year earlier than otherwise. After this, the six-year pattern then resumes. This explanation may assist those who might otherwise have been thinking that the next general revision of Electoral Rolls will take place in 2008.
