BRIAN Tidy first sat at the organ of St James’ Church, Cowley in the same year Roger Bannister ran the four minute mile and the Bash Street Boys made their first appearance in The Beano. And despite the 50 year interval, he is there still every Sunday morning.
He now lives in retirement in Didcot, after 43 years of working at the Oxford Medical School.
The congregation at St James presented Brian, an opera fanatic, with some opera tokens to mark his 50th year of service.
Do you know of anyone who has been serving their church in any capacity longer than Brian? Please let the Door know either by writing to us at Church House or emailing door@oxford.anglican.org
