Date Added: Monday 26th November 2007

A Christmas angel made by seven year old Louise Jarman. photo Phil HindNO Christmas tree will be complete without one of these angels... read on to find out how to make one. Your artistic skills could  win a prize if you download and decorate our angel template then send a photo (or the real thing) to us, complete with age, name and address, at ‘Angel’ competition, The DOOR, Diocesan Church House,  North Hinksey Lane, Oxford, OX2 ONB by January 10 2008. Diocesan children’s adviser, Yvonne Morris, will pick a winner from the entries in each of three groups 4-6 years, 7-9 years, and 10 and over. Each will receive a great joke book by the children at Helen and Douglas House which will help you start New Year with a chuckle.

How to make your Christmas angel
Download your angel and then trace or copy this template PDF (2mb) onto paper or thin card, then cut it out.

Remember to cut slits where marked.

Draw a face on the angel and, if required, use wool, glitter or colouring pens to add hair.
First bend down the arms.

Next fold the body around, behind the head, and tape or glue the edge of the two sides together. Make sure the slits match.

Slot the wings into the slits at the back, then add a hanging loop made from cotton, fixing with sticky tape.

You can also add a halo by making a loop with a stalk in a length of pipe cleaner (about half the normal full length) and sticking the stalk to the back of the angel’s head so that the loop sits above the angel’s face.

Now all that remains is to decorate your angel in any way you like! And don’t forget to send a photo of your angel – or the real thing – in to us after Christmas to be entered in our competition.

Taken from Christmas Fun by Leena Lane and Roma Bishop, and published by BRF/Barnabas £4.99 (ISBN 978 1 84101 321 8), reproduced with permission.

Comments
You can personalise your angel even more by adding in a photo of the head of the child as the head of the angel! They can all be little angels!! Be careful about parental permissions if you're doing this in a group context
