Walkers Step Out to Preserve the Abbey

Date Added: Tuesday 23rd October 2007

A TOTAL 55 spirited walkers have marched along 50 miles of the Thames path over five days, raising more than £25,000 for the Friends and Preservation Trust of Dorchester Abbey. Among the walkers were the Bishop of Dorchester, Rt Rev’d Colin Fletcher OBE, the Rector of Dorchester Abbey, Rev’d Sue Booys, the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Hugo Brunner and other supporters, as well as Anne Kelaart, Chairman of the Friends and Preservation Trust.

The walk took place over 5 days and started at Lechlade and finished at the steps of Dorchester Abbey.  Each day included a stop at a river-side pub.

Anne Kelaart said: ‘Five very happy, sunny days were spent discovering the wonder of the Thames Path and raising a magnificent sum for the Abbey. What better start to Autumn!’
