Deans of Växjö Diocese visit Wycombe Deanery

Date Added: Monday 4th June 2007

The signing of the Covenant in Oxford in spring 2003 took place in the setting of a visit by Bishop Anders Wejryd and the Deans of Växjö Diocese.  During the visit one day was spent in Wycombe Deanery, where the party visited the urban area of Micklefield and the green rural pastures of Hambleden as well as meeting the then Area Dean, The Revd Chris Bull in his parish of Flackwell Heath.

The Swedish group included the Deans of the sixteen Deaneries as well as the current Diocesan Dean at that time (roughly equivalent to an English Archdeacon), The Revd Jan-Olof Johansson.  Sadly, the then Cathedral Dean, The Revd Johan Unger, was recovering from surgery and unable to take part in the visit.  Bishop Anders was also accompanied by members of central diocesan staff, The Revd Dr Christopher Meakin (Diocesan Officer for Ecumenical and International Affairs) and the Revd Kerstin Bothén, the then Parish Development Adviser, who has since returned to parochial ministry in Gränna on the shores of Lake Vättern.

The party from Sweden in St Peter’s Church, Micklefield with Church leaders from Churches Together in East Wycombe.  The Vicar of St Peter’s, The Revd Mary Gurr is standing beside Bishop Anders Wejryd.
