Environmental Forum
Over 50 LLMs attended the Forum at Diocesan Church House on 28th April to consider the topic "Should Christians care for the Environment?" Led by Revd Professor Ian James, the Diocesan Environmental Advisor, the group worked through the science, theology and practical aspects of climate change and how we, as Christians, respond to it. Our Diocesan Target is to reduce our carbon emissions by 15% by the year 2010 and some very useful discussions took place on how we can achieve this. Professor James is very willing to visit parishes to talk about this subject.
Additional information on practical advice can be obtained from the Oxfordshire awareness group www.climatex.org
Nearly 90 LLMs attended the annual conference at London Colney from 21st to 23rd September.

LLM bows out after 49 years service
John Burbidge, LLM at St.Mary's Church in Ewelme, has retired after 49 years of service. Following wartime service with distinction in the Fleet Air Arm, John was licensed in the Diocese of Bath & Wells "on the eve of the feast of Saint Matthew" in 1958. He moved to Ewelme in 1985 after an interesting career as a senior executive in industry, and his ministry as an LLM has been much appreciated both by the parishioners and also by the late Rev'd Martin Garner. The photo shows John with his Reader Emeritus certificate which was presented to him on 22nd January 2008.
