Bishop Wejryd |

Bishop Itumeleng |
This is not only a time of change for our own diocese, but also for our diocesan partners in Kimberley and Kuruman and in Växjö. Bishop Itumeleng Baldwin Moseki will be retiring from K&K at the end of the year and today Bishop Anders Wejryd of Växjö was elected as the 69th Archbishop of Uppsala.
He is the first Archbishop to be chosen by the Church rather than the Swedish government since the disestablishment of the Church of Sweden became law in 2000. Bishop Anders obtained 176 of the electoral college votes as against the 127 cast for Bishop Ragnar Persenius, the other candidate in the final round of voting.
Bishop Anders has been launched into a demanding round of media appearances during the next 48 hours, although the process of his appointment is not yet complete. There will be a final vote of the Uppsala Diocesan Board on 4th April and appeals against the result can be lodged until 25th April. On 16th-17th May, the national Church Board confirms the election and issues the notice of appointment. The farewell service for the retiring Archbishop, Karl Gustav Hammar, will take place in Uppsala Cathedral on 4th June and the service for the reception of the new archbishop will be on 2nd September.
The election of the new bishop of Växjö will take place in the autumn.
