A Working conference
explored the mission of small and probably ancient churches to pilgrims, visitors and tourists.
- churches that feel prayed in?
- people visiting during the week?
- churches reflecting the concerns of the local community to those visiting?
Suggestions for designing a Simple Church Guide generated considerable interest at the Conference. This has now been developed with contributions from several parishes. You will find "Designing a Simple Church Guide" among the Quiet Spaces Still Places pages. You may find it of value as you think about up-dating or complementing your existing Guide.
Other needs identified at the Working Conference were:
· Helping people with prayer
· A meditative walk around the graveyard/church vicinity – literature to support this
· What information to set up in church and how best to do it.
"Help with Prayer" has been designed as a general "starter". Please send an e-mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) if your church has ideas and/or literature to contribute. Literature on meditative graveyard and/or surrounding walks would be valued, together with creative ways of linking the church and its community through display materials and other information. How andwhere you display literature would also be of interest.
Here is something which you might consider adapting and/or using. It comes from Canada where it was placed on a church door. It could equally find a spot less prominently and be of value.
This is your Father’s House
Enter expectantly
