This material is in four parts. It can be used by people on their own as well as by a group.
The material aims to:-
- explore some of the key themes of Advent
- make connections between these themes and our own experience
- provide devotional material for Advent
- reflect on how we might more simply celebrate Christmas.
For group meetings allow 90mins. Shape the material to your own local need.
The leader is strongly advised to work out suitable timings for each section beforehand so that everything can be covered in the time. S/he will want to attend to the arrangement of the furniture, to starting and finishing on time and to preparing any necessary equipment.
The scripture passages used are laid out in italics and are commonly used in the Advent season..
The notes following the scripture passages, together with much of the commentary throughout the course, read slowly and devotionally, can encourage prayer and reflection.
The four sessions are:
- Why pretend?
- Any day now!
- The wilderness surprised!
- Pregnant with salvation.
