Sabbaticals - Study Leave ( 3 Files )
Stipendiary clergy are encouraged to think of taking a period of Sabbatical/Study Leave of up to 3 months, approximately every ten years and you are encouraged to raise this question at your annual ministerial development review. It is generally envisaged that Sabbaticals will include three elements: a holiday, a course of study and a retreat. A limited number of grants are available from the Diocese and applications must be received by 30 June to be considered for the following year. The full Diocesan policy on Sabbaticals, the Application Form and details of your archdeaconry adviser can all be found below.

Work Consultants
What is work consultancy? The Diocese of Oxford encourages the use of work consultancy among its clergy and ministry teams. Work consultancy is a process which provides individuals and teams in ministry with a skilled adviser to help them think through the issues they face in their work. Such issues may include team-building, exercising leadership, vision setting, conflict resolution, organisational change, working with volunteers, dependency problems, and also more personal issues such as changing jobs, time management, or achieving a better work-life balance.Work consultants offer insights where appropriate, but won’t tell you what to do. Their aim - through attentive listening and challenging questions – is to enable you to identify solutions and move on.Why have a work consultant?A work consultant can offer:- An impartial perspective from outside the parish, office, or local area.
- Skills in understanding individuals, groups and organisations; knowledge of best practice.
- A protected “time-out” to reflect and work on issues which can otherwise get submerged by busy-ness
- An ongoing, supportive relationship.
Who are the work consultants? The Diocese through the Board of Mission runs a network of work consultants. Including clergy and lay people, all have an in-depth understanding of ministry within the Church of England and have been trained in the Diocese or elsewhere in the theory and practice of work consultancy. Some have particular specialisms, for example in conflict resolution, team consultancy, or change management.Further informationFor further information, or to find a work consultant, contact your Parish Development Adviser or Carolyn Main at Diocesan Church House.
