How we fit into the life of the Diocese

PACT is one of the practical arms of the caring Church in the Diocese. We help children and families in social need. We encourage local communities to work together to support each other, and we supplement and complement the statutory authorities, which have limitations on their areas of involvement.

Statement of purpose

PACT offers a practical service to parents, their children and families, an adoption and fostering service, and a post-adoption counselling service for all parties involved in the adoption process. ‘Drop in’ centres for parents and children have been developed in the areas of greatest need. PACT offers NVQ training opportunities within the centres. PACT education operates a centre for the voluntary sector to deliver NVQs.

PACT is specialising in working with homeless families in temporary hostel accommodation in Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Reading and Bracknell. PACT Parents’ House in Bracknell also offers supported accommodation to young, vulnerable women and their babies. PACT also manages family centres in south Oxfordshire and runs ‘Supporting People’ projects in the three counties.

PACT operates a number of projects across the Diocese, and is committed to supporting and strengthening families.

The work of PACT is managed by a Board of Trustees, and the Chair is appointed by the Bishop of Oxford. The Trustees are supported by individuals with expertise in social care, medicine, housing, education, finance and local government. In addition, the adoption and fostering panels call upon people from a variety of backgrounds to assist in the process of approval.

Friends of PACT were established in 2004.
