A night under canvas was a summer treat for the new youth group from St Helen's Benson.

Megan, 14, Aiden, 16 and Jonjo, 16 were among the teenagers who spent the night preparing prayers and readings for the next day's family service, playing games, eating African food cooked on a campfire and roasting marshmallows in the churchyard. The event included an informal, candle-lit, 10pm Eucharist service.

And while the event was fun, it was also poignant as it had been encouraged by the Revd John Burrell, the Vicar of Benson who sadly died recently.

Emma Firth, one of the church's youth leaders said: "John really encouraged youth events and we used wood from his woodpile in the vicarage to fuel the campfire."The teenagers enjoyed their night under canvas, and rounded it off the next morning by cooking more than 80 rashers of bacon to serve breakfast to the congregation. Hear Megan, Aiden and Jonjo talk about their experience below.
